Mama's Best

I should have stayed out of the kitchen yesterday.

First, I made my weekly batch of bread. I had tried a new recipe and the bread didn't rise.

Then, I thought last night's dinner was an absolute disaster. My plan was to have BLT's plus a summer squash medley. I will admit right here and now that I have never cooked squash. I have made zucchini bread but that is the extent of it. I have eaten squash though so I know what it is supposed to taste like. I thought I had failed miserably.

While I was cooking the squash, I realized I didn't have any lettuce so I would have to do something other than BLT's. The squash recipe called for bacon so I was cooking that anyways and just decided to mix the extra bacon with eggs and have a bacon and egg burrito. But, I burnt the bacon. Then, if this isn't enough, my eggs stick to the skillet. I'm just feeling defeated at this point, but I put out my food and the family comes to the table.

Paige points to the squash and says, "what's that? Can I taste it?" I give her some and she LOVES it! Not only does everyone eat the bacon and eggs, but they add the squash medley to it and enjoy my impromptu breakfast burrito.

Paige makes my night, while shoving her food as fast as she can, she says,

"When I'm older, I'm going to open a restaurant and call it "Mama's Best". I'm going to put this on the menu along with everything else you cook."

Then she starts to go over the menu, "meatloaf, pot roast, cinnamon rolls, your bread has to be at every meal, chicken pot pie, . . . "

I went from feeling embarrassed about what I was feeding my family to feeling like a hero. Thanks, Paige. Let's do the restaurant together!

It's so nice when your kids think you have done something wonderful. Enjoy the ego boost. Tomorrow they will be pointing out your flaws:)
