Ethan is still sick!

I am sure this post will come off as whiny, cranky, angry, and frankly, that is how I'm feeling.

Ethan started with, what ever this, is on Feb. 24th. He has been sick 3 times since then. This current bout started 10 days ago and he's still going strong with the vomiting and diarrhea. He is on Zofran, so the vomiting has stopped as long as it's in his system. This past week I took him the his pediatrician 3 times, ended up in the Emergency Room twice and he was admitted once. My poor little boy has lost 4 pounds (10% of his body weight), and lies around saying, "I'm just so sick." The worst thing after hearing that all day is that the Doctors don't seem that concerned or for that matter, even know what is going on! They are still telling me it could be the stomach bug. REALLY?

Friday I was told by his pediatrician to go to the ER because he was showing signs of dehydration again. Once there,Ethan starts telling everyone that he's not sick. GREAT, THANKS, ETHAN! His Doctor came into his room, and after hearing the entire story literally walked out, rubbing his head saying, "Well, I'm stumped." I turned to David and said, "I don't think that's a good sign to hear your Doctor say that." After he receives his IV, the Doctor tells me there is nothing they can do because it's Friday night and they won't call anyone in to do any tests on him. So what do they do? Give him another prescription for Zofran and send us on our way. (Never mind the fact I completely broke down in tears in the ER. I feel so utterly helpless.)

Currently, I am feeling as though Ethan belongs on the show Mystery Diagnosis. My sweet little boy is so lethargic, sleepy, vomiting, and constantly in the bathroom with diarrhea. I'm taking him to the Dr. again tomorrow. I WILL get in to see a GI Doctor and if that doesn't work, I'm going back to the ER and demand (okay, beg) that the tests be preformed. This just isn't right.

The last two nights Ethan has fallen asleep in the bathtub. He's just so exhausted all the time.

I hate to say this, but it really could still be a stomach bug. I went through this with Britain not too long ago. We had several pediatrician visits, had to submit a stool sample, and cleaned up endless amounts of fluids that were being emitted from both ends of his body. It was 3+ weeks until he finally got over his mysterious illness which ended up being called a "stomach bug." Our pediatrician said that they saw case after case of this stomach illness that just didn't seem to go away. I hope Ethan gets better soon. I understand what you are going through and it's so hard to see your little one suffer.

You can only hope it is a stomach bug. I'd follow up with that GI dr though. Jared ended up being diagnosed with cyclic vomiting syndrome when he was having a "stomach bug".

Maybe he should be tested for celiac disease. His pediatrician can write and order for than and its just a blood test.
