I've told some of you this story, but it had a profound affect on me so I thought I'd share it with all of you.
If you read my blog, you know David has been on rotating unemployment since last October. Now, rather than having two weeks off per month, he is down to only one. Obviously money is still really tight. Beyond our house though, there have been so many catastrophes happening around the world. I suggested two weeks ago that along with Tithing and Fast Offerings, that we also include money for Humanitarian Aid. We were also asked to support the scouting program in our ward by donating $150. So, we did that as well. I was home that Sunday because of being on bed rest with my back. While David was driving home heard a POP and then saw smoke out the back window. The van then proceeded to overheat. He managed to get home to the garage, were it continued to leak antifreeze. We were told the next day by our mechanic not to drive the van, so we had it towed to his garage. The culprit was the water pump and it was repaired that same day. Here is where the story gets good!!! JUST THE DAY BEFORE . . .
David got a side job to draft up an addition on someones house. (He hasn't had a side job in several months.) The amount of money he is making covers the exact total of what we spent that weekend!!
My first feeling when I heard that something was wrong with the van was, "of course there's something wrong, we are actually going to have money so something had to break." My attitude was quickly adjusted as I thought about it and realized it was such a blessing that it happened when it did. We now had the money to cover the repairs! Heavenly Father was watching over us, as always. I know when we do what we are asked and are faithful in paying our tithes and offerings, the blessings flow. I know it's not always in the way of money, but I can't doubt the irony of having our car break down the EXACT day we donate well above and beyond our normal payment.
Since that day, two weeks ago, David has procured 2 more side jobs. My heart is overflowing with gratitude.
