Suprising Results

David and I have been concerned about Paige's constant need for blinking these past couple of months. We've put in eye drops to help her out, but she still is blinking, even when she says her eyes don't feel dry. Luckily, her Sunday School teacher is an Ophthalmologist and said he recognized the blinking. Since there are so many things that can manifest themselves through problems with the eyes, he suggested we take her to see her PCP. Her PCP told us to see a Neurologist, and an Ophthalmologist. During the course of her "well-Child" check up, her doctor asked if we had other concerns. I mentioned to her of Paige's' complaints of certain foods bothering her and making her mouth itch. SO, she took blood. The result came back today via a phone call from the office.

Paige has a moderate allergy to: carrots, apples, peanuts and milk.

Low allergy to: walnuts ad sesame seeds.

Also allergic to Trees, grasses and ragweed.

The nurse said I had to get an epi-pen for her moderate allergies and needed to set up an appointment with an allergist. The ironic thing is, carrots and apples aren't normally on the allergy panel. Paige complained about eating them and I thought she just didn't want to eat them. I'm glad we added those to the panel. Walnut allergies as well as the outdoor allergies didn't surprise me either. Peanuts and milk have thrown me for a loop. A couple of days ago Rylee was eating vanilla wafers with peanut butter on them and handed them to Paige. Paige hasn't eaten PB in years because they always have made her mouth itch. So, she handed them back. She then happened to rub her eyes and had an immediate reaction to the oils. I'm anxious to see what else she'll be allergic to. We'll have to figure out the whole milk thing. I've been drinking soy for a couple of months and although Paige tested negative for soy, she says it makes her tongue itch. I'm a little freaked out about the whole epi-pen thing, but I'm sure my adrenalin will kick in if it's ever needed.

Oh--that's interesting. Caio has peanut allergy, so we stay away from that at our house (my husband and I eat sunflower seed butter). He also has some pollen and tree allergies. We have an epipen too, but fortunately have never had to use it. But it's interesting to hear the correlation of blinking and allergy, because he blinks like crazy sometimes, and we've also tried the drops etc. with no help. I'll have to pay attention to what he's eaten around when the blinking is. The doctor said she thought it was some sort of tic, but I don't agree with her.

Oh-and I just rememberd--my sister gets itchy when she eats raw apples and carrots. She also says that soy milk makes her itch too. Maybe there is something to it?

You could try almond milk or rice milk. I LOVE rice milk. We drink it all the time.

I have the itchy mouth reaction to apples and bananas.

I'm allergic to apples too, although my allergic told me that it's not the apple per say, it's the pollen that is between the skin and the fruit of the apple? I have no idea if that's true or not, but I know that my throat gets crazy itchy and my lips go numb whenever I eat them - even if they are dried!
